About Me
Restoring Movement. Supporting Performance.
Josh Whelan is a McGill University–educated physiotherapist with a clinical focus in orthopaedic and sports rehabilitation. His work centers on restoring efficient movement, addressing motor control and kinetic dysfunctions, and guiding patients through structured, progressive return to activity and performance.
Alongside his clinical training, Josh holds a Master’s degree in classical voice and operatic performance from the University of Toronto. He has performed professionally throughout North America and Europe, including appearances at major venues such as Maison Symphonique, Carnegie Hall, the National Arts Centre, and Palais Montcalm. He has also served as artist-in-residence with the Opéra de Montréal.
In addition to his work as a classical vocalist, Josh is an active professional guitarist, performing and recording across a range of contexts. His lived experience in high-level performance environments — where physical precision, endurance, and psychological composure are essential — informs his clinical perspective.
This dual background allows him to approach rehabilitation not only from an injury-management standpoint, but from a performance optimization lens. He understands the demands placed on athletes and performing artists: repetitive load, fine motor control, postural endurance, and the relationship between body and mind under pressure.
Josh’s clinical approach is thoughtful, evidence-informed, and collaborative. He integrates manual therapy where appropriate with progressive strength and motor retraining to help patients return not only to activity — but to confident, high-level performance.
Originally from Nova Scotia, he maintains an active lifestyle that includes strength training, running, calisthenics, and time outdoors.
